WET WELL REPAIR + WATERPROOFING
As a result of Hurricane Sandy in October of 2012, The Greater New Haven Water Pollution Control Authority (GNHWPCA) received FEMA funding to raise the four pump stations at Cosy Beach in East Haven, Connecticut, above storm surge elevation. Following the demolition of the existing structures, new pump stations were constructed and ready to be installed. However, spalling and water infiltration was discovered on an existing wet well and needed to be remedied prior to the pump station installation.
With a window of only a week for the repairs, Savy & Sons was brought in to work with GNHWPCA and the General Contractor to repair the crumbling concrete, waterproof the manhole and underground structure, and apply an epoxy liner to ensure a waterproof seal, and maintain structural integrity.
Within three days, the Savy & Sons team restored the waterproof barrier of the manhole with epoxy injection, removed the spalling and repaired the deterioration, and applied Cladliner™ – a hybrid cementitious liner and an epoxy – to the underground shaft, providing chemical resistance and protection from corrosive elements, ensuring the structural integrity of the well.
