EXTERNAL ELEVATOR SHAFT
All previous attempts to waterproof the underground elevator pit had failed. Water was still leaking into the pit – and pooling at the bottom – causing rust on the pipes within the hydraulic system. Left unaddressed, the hydraulic system would need repair or replacement and would lead to the elevator being out of service for an extended period of time, as well as be a significant expense that the building owner would like to avoid.
As with all elevator shaft repairs, Otis Elevator referred the building owner to Savy & Sons to explore a new waterproofing option. After the initial consult and examination of the underground elevator pit, Savy & Sons cleaned the pit of the residual water and oil and was then able to pinpoint the water infiltration areas, drill and inject each of them with a polyurethane hydro-active grout to permanently seal the leaks, keeping the pit dry. The project took two days, minimizing the downtime for the elevator, and the overall project costs, saving the client money.
The rainy summer weather following the repair tested the Savy & Sons solution, and the building facilities manager reports that the pit remained dry.
